Trigger and Grip Button Stopped Working After Headset and Controller Update
Today I fired up my Quest 3 and was "treated" to a controller update for both my Quest 3 controllers. After this happened the trigger and grip buttons on the right controller stopped working at all. Every other button works fine as does the joystick.
Here are things I've tried that did NOT work:
- Replacing the battery (it registers as 100% but the grip and triggers still do not work)
- Cleaning the controller
- Re-pairing in the options menu
- Re-pairing in the iOS app
- Controller factory reset (hold B + Meta button for 10 seconds - it reset but the two buttons do not work)
- Restarting the headset (it told me it was updating, which it always does; not sure I believe it, and when it rebooted the issue persisted)
- Remapping the A and B buttons to the trigger and grip in the Settings. This did not work at all. It's like the right controller not only refuses to accept inputs from its grip and trigger, but it has no concept at all of these two buttons. Something is VERY wrong with your software here Meta.
Note that there have been a few times where the grip and trigger briefly worked when I was outside of a game and in passthrough mode. I tried holding the trigger and it worked for a few seconds and then rapidly flicked on and off and then went back to completely not working again. I'd like to know what larger issue a symptom like this could be coming from. I am not aware of any further steps I can take in order to get the controller working again. What am I supposed to do here? If I were to buy new controllers how could I be assured this same issue won't happen again when there is another "controller update"?
Try toggling off all the Experimental Settings and also hand-tracking in your headset. Now unpair your controllers using the phone app. Remove the batteries from the controllers for 5 minutes then put them back in. Now re-pair the controllers using the phone app. After successful pairing, press and hold the power button on the headset for 20 seconds to power it off. Restart the headset and check if the controllers are fully working again. You should now be able to turn hand tracking and the Experimental Settings back on.
