I’m a user with the same issue. I think I figured out the root cause but not a solution.
for context, I’m on iPhone.
I migrated a very old Facebook account over to the new system. I think the app is trying to trigger a window for you to create your new avatar. And that window is running into an error that completely soft locks the app.
when I went and created a new account under the new account, a proper window opened up for me to create an avatar.
I would still rather use my old account rather than using a new account because I had some old purchases on the old account

Try unlinking your old Facebook account from your original Meta account, then see if that solves the "Type error" issue.
If that doesn't fix it, it could simply be that your old Meta account was too old or had a problem, because you were able to set up your headset after you created a new Meta account 🤔.
I think you can unlink your Facebook account at Meta Accounts Centre on the web (you can also access Accounts Centre in the Meta Horizon app). I used to have mine linked, but I decided it could be a security risk - if my Facebook gets hacked or banned, I might get locked out of my headset. There are tons of posts in these forums from people losing access to their Facebook or Meta accounts.

I don't have any account linked to my Meta account. I did migrate an old VR account over - which I now no longer have access to as it was mirgated into this Meta account so I could get back my old purchased games.
Maybe it's related - but that was be something only Meta can resolve I would think. Another day gone by - still can't use the app or headset!- GtarTravis5 months agoHonored Guest
I think we have the same issue with the same cause. I let support know about it and I’m told they’ll update me when there is a solution. we are using an older account migrated into Meta and the app is running into an error when it tries to prompt us to make an avatar.
I bought my headset 2 days ago and was forced to make a new account to use it. Not ideal because, like you, I had a ton of old purchases I didn’t want to lose.
