WIFI connection issues with Meta Quest 3

Hey guys,

so i recently got a Meta Quest 3 for VR Gaming (MSFS2024) and i read quite a lot on how to properly set everything up to have a great experience.
So eventuelly i decided to install Virtual desktop on the headset and the Streamer app on my PC.
Furthermore, i bought a separate router (TP-Link Archer AXE75 AXE5400 Tri-Band Gigabit Wi-Fi 6E Router) and configured it as an access point. So the main router is in the living room, then an ethernet cable is going directly into my office, then i have the TP-Link router as access point (WAN is internet IN and LAN1 is out to PC) and then another ethernet cable to my PC). The access point sits on top of my PC case, so just 1m away from where i am sitting.
I have the options of having 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz Wifi networks, but i only enabled 2.4 and 6GHz.

Now i come to the issue:
The problem i have is that if i power my headset on, it doesn't connect to the 6GHz Wifi since it states 'unable to connect'. I also have to keep the 2.4GHz enabled, otherwise the 6GHz would need even be recognized from the headset.
In the WIFI list, the 6GHz WIFI is sometimes recognized, sometimes it vanishes and then i have to turn the WIFI on the headset OFF and then back ON. AFter some tries, if finally connects. Sometimes it loses connection again.

Any idea on what i can do in order to improve the connecting issues?

Many thanks for the support.

  • If your primary router is also transmitting wifi then maybe you have interference between the two routers. Maybe try turning off the wifi on the primary router (at least for diagnosing the problem) and see if that makes a difference. Maybe try using different wifi channels.

Google AI tells me: If the Quest 3 cannot see the 6 GHz network, update the router firmware, ensure WPA3 security is enabled, and try using a dedicated channel (e.g., 160 MHz).

Also, make sure the 6Ghz channel is set on a preferred scanning channel (PSC).

      Many thanks for the answer!

So my main router only has a 2.4GHz and 5GHz network. Would it make sense to disable the 5GHz network and only enable the 6GHz network on my quest router?

router firmware is up to date, the 6GHz network has WPA3 personal enabley, the scanning channel i have to check.

It's a matter of balance and what your requirements are, but the fewer wifi signals flooding through your house, the less the signal interference will be.
