Wifi Still Disconnecting on Quest 3

Hi there. Like a lot of Quest 3 users on this forum and on Reddit, I too have problems with my Quest 3 disconnecting from the wifi every 15 to 20 minutes or so. I was hoping that the last three firmware updates would help. Meta had said that v67 has helped with this, but I'm still disconnecting. It's really frustrating when playing a game or while on the Bigscreen app.

I've tried everything in addition to the new firmware updates - I've changed between ipv4 and ipv6 on my router, and I've erased the Quest OS and reinstalled everything multiple times. I've also rebooted my CenturyLink modem/router a couple of times. Nothing works.

Is there anyone - including Meta support - that has any ideas on what to do now? Or is it possible that my headset is faulty and needs to be exchanged. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there, Vinman123456! We definitely want for you to enjoy your time in VR, and that can be hard with constant network disconnects! We would recommend trying the following troubleshooting if you have not yet:

    1. Reboot the headset.
    2. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect communication (such as headset covers, etc.)
    3. Try connecting to a different network to see if it does the same thing. Disconnects like this can be due to weak signal, interference, or your wifi router.
    4. Make sure that your software is backed up, then perform a factory reset.

Hopefully those get things working for you once more.

I'm sure half of us did this before even coming here.
This is a HUGE problem. Nothing else on my wifi network is affected in this way.

  • Thanks for the response. I've tried before all of the suggestions you mentioned. I have rebooted the headset countless times, I've tried both my 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz bands on my router and as I mentioned before, I've done a factory reset a couple of times, and nothing works. I do have a third-party headstrap/battery pack hooked up to my Quest 3, but the wifi disconnects started to occur long after I put the headstrap on. I don't have another network in the home to try connecting to. Perhaps I can try connecting it to my phone via a hotspot to see if the problem persists, but that's the only other network I can try it with.

Thank you for trying those steps Vinman123456, could you try the following Wi-Fi troubleshooting if you haven't already:

      • Go to Wi-Fi settings on your Quest 3
      • Go to your network settings and select mac address
      • Make sure the mac address it set to device and not random

I can't seem to send a private message to you anymore. I get some HTML error and then an error message saying I've hit my limit of private messages.. How can I contact  you?

  • Hi team,

Unfortunately I am facing the same issue with he Quest3 :/. This is true for several months now, but due to traveling I hoped it to be solved and was waiting.

I used to have no problems with my current setup, but just suddenly it started to not connect properly any longer. It can recognize the network, can attach to it but logs off within seconds.

Your suggestions to disable IPv6 is not possible as only IPv6 is supported.

Using another VLAN (hotspot with phone or even a guest network on the same router as the problem router) is no problem. I need to insist to be back on the main network of the router, however, as I want to use the full potential of the Quest: Including Steam and Quest Link.

    Your help is highly appreciated.

P.S.: I have the software v69 (just installed today) which still has the problem. I also did a complete reset of the Quest.

  • As you can read above I did exactly that. A factory reset did not help either. I can see others with the same problem suddenly appearing but with no solution but deactivating IPv6 (which is not possible on my end). I wonder why/how that appears and whether you get the chance to fix it or provide another solution.

If no general solution is available I will try a bug report :).

    Thx

Been having the same exact problem here and its not a faulty device. When I first bought the quest 3 last month I ran into these issues and even returned my headset for a new one and it still had the same disconnecting issues. At this point I'm hoping for a software fix in the future since this is definitely a meta problem and not me.

Hello! We are just checking in to see if you still need support on this issue or if it has been resolved?

We hope you are having a nice day.

Hi there RoachKiller123, thank you for reaching out to us. We'd love to look into this for you.

We would like to take the time to welcome you to the Meta Family.

We understand Wi-Fi issues are not an ideal scenario, but, would you mind completing the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Reboot the headset.
    2. Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect communications.
    3. Connect to the problematic network and submit a bug report.
    4. Try connecting to a different network.

If, after completing these steps, the issue still persists, please let us know. We will then investigate further.

Hope to see you in VR soon!

  • What are you going to do if it hasn't been resolved?

My Quest 3 drops out of wifi. Every 10 minutes. It never used to, until you updated it many months ago.

My Quest 2 doesn't have any issues like this.
Why can't you let us roll back to a firmware that doesn't have this issue?

I absolutely understand how much that must be getting in the way of your enjoyment of your device I personally would go nuts from that happening.

Something which may be worth a shot as I have seen other users report working is:

      • Under Wi-Fi settings in quest 3, go to the network your on and select mac address and change it to Device Mac and not Random Mac.
      • Check your WIFI settings and disable the ipv6 on your router and try to use the ipv4"

If the issue continues to persist I would recommend contacting support directly, you can do so using the link below:

      Meta Quest support.

Hopefully your connection issues will be resolved as soon as possible!

        Hi MetaMetalMonke,

Thanks for the response. I'm just moaning because this was caused by a forced update. The device was working fine before v64 hit. I'm just keeping the fire lit, in the hope an update will fix it.

It really is a problem with modern devices. Companies like to 'fix' what ain't broken with constant unwanted updates. It wouldn't be so bad if they let us roll back when that 'fix' or 'enhancement' does something bad.
I'm going to buy a new router in the new year, maybe I'll get lucky.

      Hey Paul,

you may consider to reset your wifi-router. Doing so solved the issue for me.

Keep in mind: if you changed the routers standard password you might have to change it again to have your devices to auto-connect.

Hi Equester, thanks for the reply.

Not going to bother going through the whole rigmarole again, again, again, if you know what I mean.
This has been a long-standing issue caused by a FW update. (As verified by others here)
It's just a source of frustration at this point. I come here occasionally to see if others are still suffering.

I like to add my voice when I see something.

  • Device - Quest 3

    System Version - 50352750037400510

    Software Version - 71.0.0.278.522.650679316

    Serial Number - 2GOYC1ZG2407FD

    OS - SQ3A.22065.009.A1

    Runtime  -71.0.0.285.529.650679117

But we have been through all this before.
Just let us roll back to pre V64. Solve all this.

Thank you very much for providing those details paul.frampton.754.

I understand that a rollback feature is something yourself and other users would be interested in unfortunately as far as I'm aware currently there is no way of doing so and I personally do not know if that is something in the cards for a later implementation, however fingers crossed it has been noticed and is being looked into.

I would still urge others to provide the details in my previous post as a higher quantity of user details to pull from will be very beneficial for the team to investigate this issue further.

Thank you for your cooperation it is very much appreciated!

The only thing stopping us rolling back is Meta. I bought a functioning piece of hardware that forced updates have broken.
Just to rub salt into the wound, today I thought I'd just go wired to save the hassle. Plugged in my official cable into the USB 3.1 port on my PC, only for it to be recognised it as USB 2. A quick search on here shows this is another common problem. Sigh...

I don't mean to be rude to you, I know it's not your fault. I suffered the "sparklies" on the Quest 2 that arrived after a fw update that months later finally got solved, and now this wifi issue on my Q3 has rendered my device useless for PC gaming.  Owning a Meta device is so frustrating.

  • I just got my Meta today and all I have to say after reading this thread is wow… how has it been months and there’s still no fix?! I’ve spent hours on this, tried every single step, and no luck. How did y’all create such a big issue AND neglect to solve it for months on end? I’m debating just returning this before I’m stuck with the headache…

        Hi RigorMorty,

Thanks for sharing your experience! We understand you're having some issues with your Quest 3 disconnecting from Wi-Fi.

We'd love to help you out in any way we can!

So that we don't cover any old ground, could you please confirm the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far?
Additionally, would you mind describing your network setup for us?

Looking forward to hearing back from you about this!

  • I have the same issue. Just recently change my router, everything worked before that. Everything works fine on my phone hotspot as well. Please, someone help me because at the moment the headset in unusable…

Surprised to hear that this problem still hasn't been fixed for this long I have stopped using my headset ever since I have had this problem. To fix this problem I had to use another router I had lying around in order to not be disconnected and it worked for me. Try using your older router to test the internet and it should work. If you want you can connect your new router (have this be your main) to the older one and use the older ones as the wifi in the headset. That's what I did and it works for me. *since the your old router is connected to the new one it will be a little bit slower

Oh god finally someone gave a solution that worked like a charm! Earlier 5G used to work even when connected to original router and ever since the update even 2.5G stopped working for Q3. But using an older router as repeater worked well at least for 2.5G. Its slower but works!!

  • Okay, so I’m experiencing the same problem. I’ve done everything on the suggestion list to fix the issue and nothing has changed at all, and in all honesty, paying $500 for this headset, just to have it disconnect me ever few minutes, is absolutely ridiculous. I’m almost tempted to return this thing if it persists

Seems like this has been an issues for quite sometime!! We just got ours and one of them is have this issue!! Ughh not only are the games not working! (Some of them) but now the headsets themselves, tried everything already listed with no fix, what a waste of money
