Oculus fork of Unreal Engine (version 5.5.4 V78) + Meta Haptics SDK

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using the Oculus fork of Unreal Engine (version 5.5.4 V78) and I need to add support for the Meta Haptics SDK.

My Unreal build was compiled as an 'Installed Build' to facilitate internal distribution to our production team.

The issue is that I cannot find the plugin version for V78 on the official download page (https://developers.meta.com/horizon/downloads/package/meta-xr-haptics-sdk-for-unreal/).

Only V74 and V81 seem to be available. When I try to use either of those, I get the standard error: "The following modules are missing or built with a different engine version"

What is the best path forward here? Is it possible to provide a V78 version of the plugin? Or will I be forced to recompile the entire engine just to include this plugin?

Thanks in advance.

I understand you have some questions about the versions of the Haptics SDK and the compatibility with your version of UE. You're correct that there is currently no publicly released v74 of the Haptics SDK. That said, you have a few options available to you to fix the issue you're experiencing.

As you mentioned previously, you could recompile your engine and align with the current release version (v83) of the Haptics SDK. However with that option, I will note that v83 of the Haptics SDK is not supported by UE 5.5.4, and you would also need to upgrade to 5.6. That said, the other option if you want to continue using UE 5.5.4 you could also try downgrading the Haptics SDK to v74 as that version is supported by UE 5.5.

Whichever option you choose, I would suggest that you ensure all versions of Meta's SDKs (Platform, interaction, audio, etc...) are all on the same version to avoid compatibility issues. Hopefully you found some of this helpful, and please feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
