Why I believe Meta could become the Playstation of the future that everyone will want
Hi community!
Below I’m going to share several reasons why I believe Meta, with Meta Quest, could become the game console everyone will want to own in the very near future. I don’t intend to offend anyone with this; it’s just an idea I feel strongly about:
1 - Curated game selection: When I open the Meta Horizon Store, it feels like I’m in the Google Play Store. The first impression is seeing low-quality or low-appeal titles showcased on the front page, or simply not knowing what to play because nothing looks compelling. Meta should highlight high-quality, unique, professionally-finished experiences so that any new user immediately wants to play them all. Meanwhile, experimental or beginner-level games could be placed in a secondary list, so new developers still get opportunities without diluting the main catalog.
2 - Monthly subscription similar to Game Pass: Meta could offer a monthly subscription that gives users access to a catalog of strong, high-quality games.
3 - Ability to run traditional games: The SDK could include an “Augmented Video Game Console” mode, a feature that allows traditional console-style games to run using a controller, but displayed as a huge virtual screen in your living room, with the added ability to alter your real environment based on events happening inside the virtual game screen.
4 - Meta Horizon Avatars: I’m not sure how relevant it is for every user to have a childlike avatar. I think many people, especially casual and older audiences, don’t identify with these avatars. I would focus on building a strong, desirable gaming ecosystem first, and maybe later include a more powerful system of avatars and virtual social worlds.
5 - Strong marketing push to position Meta as the future of gaming: With a catalog of truly new, never-before-seen experiences, Meta could gain strong visibility on social media through high-quality videos showcasing innovative gameplay concepts only possible on Meta Quest.
6 - Regarding point 5: the idea of a "Meta Room", a physical space featuring several themed rooms and Meta Quest stations where people can meet with friends or family and play together in a shared physical space. This could revive the spirit of old arcade venues using cutting-edge technology, while also bringing VR and AR closer to all types of audiences and age groups.
Those are my six ideas why I believe Meta, together with developers’ creativity, could drive a true paradigm shift in the world of traditional gaming.
I'd love to know what you think!
Cheers
