Microphone failure on VPN

I am paranoid about hackers and my VPN is set to automatically turn on whenever I leave the house.

Voice recognition Does not work when I’m using my VPN on iOS when out and about 

I’m comfortable with voice processing happening in the cloud. My issue is that when my iPhone VPN is on, ‘Hey Meta’ stops working. Since iOS doesn’t allow split tunneling, could Meta add an option for the glasses to use a whitelisted server or port so voice commands work even while a VPN is active? I want the privacy protection of VPN for everything else, but still be able to use voice.
