Oakley Vanguard - IP67

The Oakley Vanguard sunglasses are rated IP67.

The IP67 standard states that an object with this rating can remain submerged in water at a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Therefore, I deduce that the Oakley Vanguard sunglasses can remain underwater at a maximum depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes... meaning they are suitable for kitesurfing, and even if they remain submerged for a few seconds at a depth of 30 centimeters during a fall, there will be no problem.

Can someone confirm this?

Thanks in advance.

I tried few days ago... kitesurfing with my Vanguard... And, so far so good, everything seems to be OK
Let's test another kite session in the coming days

  • Yes you are right with the IP67.

Even though the certificate of water resilience is NOT for seawater!

But yeah go for a short test. We're awaiting your report;)

  • J'espère juste que si cela ne marche pas... Oakley et/ou Meta se montrera commercial et me remboursera les lunettes, car à 550€ les lunettes, ca fait cher le test ;-)

If they fail, don't tell Meta you went kite surfing. Just say it was a little bit of sweat 😉.

Here are the videos… and as you will see, the Vanguard only touches the water for a few milliseconds, no more…

I don't know how to share those videos on this forum... hence don't hesitate to do it

  • You might be right... although IP67 means the device can be submerged 1 meter for 30 minutes... so much more than half a second at 15 centimeters.

So, as the Vanguards are IP67 rated... they must withstand kitesurfing and other water sports of that nature.
