Collecting payment outside App Lab
I thought I read that Oculus won't allow us to collect income/payments for app lap apps outside of the Oculus platform without some kind of agreement with them. But I can't seem to find that, and I just now ran across this post that says we can sell keys without giving any revenue to Oculus:
https://developer.oculus.com/blog/oculus-distribution-channel-guide/
We're building education apps and want to be able to sell "bulk" licenses to schools, for example, in addition to sales to individuals on app lab. Can somebody point me to the right answer/resources/docs on this issue?
Thanks in advance!
Found it. I don't remember the bit about b2b/education licensing before, but glad to see it's explicitly allowed now:
Payments
Apps hosted on the Oculus Platform may not contain, use, or make available commerce solutions β including for app payment processing, in-app purchases, or in-app advertising β except as provided in the Oculus Platform SDK, or otherwise expressly agreed by you and Oculus in writing. For example, if your app has in-app purchases, and your app is distributed through any Oculus distribution channel, including the Oculus Store, you must use the Oculus Platform In-App Purchases to handle such payment processing.
The following exceptions to the above policy are permitted:
Bulk IAP or Subscription Licenses Developers may sell licenses to prepaid in-app functionality off-platform only when selling such licenses in bulk to business customers (i.e., companies or educational institutions).

Anybody know how I can get in touch with Oculus with a question like this? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there a system in place to get answers from them??

Hi!
I am developing an application with a prepaid license only for companies outside of the oculus platform, as you indicate. But when I try to upload the application to the app lab, it is rejected with this argument: "Please confirm that any off-platform monetization of content accessible in this app conforms to the Oculus Bulk IAP or Subscription Licenses app policy outlined here: https://developer .oculus.com/policy/app-policies". Do you have to do something special to allow these types of subscriptions? Thank you very much!- sqlearn.developmentHonored Guest
Hi!
I try to upload an educational application to the app lab which is free without the need of prepaid license, but it is rejected with the same argument. Did you manage to uploaded it?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
do I understand the Bulk IAP or Subscription Licenses part of the App Policy correctly that if we plan selling bulk licenses only to schools (i.e. no individuals) off-platform, we do not need to pay any cut from such sale to Oculus?
Thanks.

As I know, it was made for additional protection because fraud is almost everywhere, and it's actually a good solution for a platform like that. I'm aware that other companies use services like https://covery.ai/products/vmpi-chargeback-prevention/ to reduce the number of disputes and chargebacks, and just to ensure the complete safety of your data and security.

From what I understand, App Lab developers can sell keys directly without giving revenue to Oculus. This means you can distribute licenses through your own channels (e.g., selling bulk licenses to schools) without paying a cut to Oculus, as long as the transactions happen outside their store.
