How Useful is Rift/VR for Software Development

I'm looking into something like the Rift, or VR in general, for software development/writing code, and was wondering if anyone had any opinions?

Currently, I have two issues with my current living situation:  1) I do not have the space for a large dual-monitor setup, 2) I don't have the permanent space for a single monitor(25") setup.  A laptop screen doesn't cut it.  I was wondering if VR goggles would provide an effective multi-screen solution for software development w/o the physical size issues.  Is a physical keyboard still needed?  Thoughts?
