Oculus app sometimes causes home screen to appear instead of application output

I have a separate application using the Oculus SDK and when I open it the Oculus app starts as expected (OculusClient.exe). However instead of seeing my application in the Oculus right away, sometimes I see the Oculus home screen. In this case I can see my application in the bottom right and when I select it from there it opens just fine.

If I open the Oculus app before opening my application instead of letting it auto-open then it occurs less, but the problem still exists.

Has anyone else experienced this problem before? Any idea how I could fix this to get the application to always open right away?
