Using the Quest 3 passthrough for Augmented Reality on architectural project

Hi, we’re on the verge of buying a Quest 3 for a specific solution to a VR/AR need. We’ve designed and completed a physical two-storey hotel suite, but the spiral staircase connecting the two floors has been delayed. We have a fully modelled and textured 3d model of the staircase and was hoping to use the passthrough element of the Quest 3 to drop the staircase in position in the existing hotel room and allow potential customers the opportunity to see it while wearing the new Quest. Problem is there’s little to no support on where to even begin with this so can anyone advise on where to begin? Is it possible? Many thanks

  • Did you manage to solve the issue?

I am embarking on a very similar project and i'm not sure if the technology is there yet to support this sort of functionality?

Hi, the technology IS there, and we're now using it but we had to go to an outside provider to research the process as the setup involves following a mind boggling 12 pages of a Word documentation for the installation.  Most of it has to happen within UE, downloading and installing MetaXR plugins, but there's loads of settings where you just have to tick a box. My advice would be to look for a similar research provider, we would never have been able to sort it ourselves. Sorry I can't be of more help.

You *may* accomplish this with an app called Arkio. It’s an architectural visualization program that I think allows you to import your own models and view them in colocated mixed reality. Building your own solution is overkill unless there are some very specific features you need.
