Landscape architecture

Is anyone developing VR applications for the landscape design industry? Existing user platforms include Autodesk products, landFX, SketchUp, and other BIM systems.  I’m a landscape architect and see this technology replacing the current 2d 3d presentation norms in this $7 billion industry.

  • Hi there,

It's great to see growing interest in VR applications for landscape design! Virtual reality has the potential to completely transform how we visualize and present outdoor spaces, especially for immersive client presentations and collaborative design reviews.

While there isn’t yet a fully dedicated VR platform for landscape design, many professionals are successfully using tools like Unreal Engine, Twinmotion, and Enscape to bring 3D models into VR. These platforms integrate well with software like SketchUp, Revit, and AutoCAD, making it easier to transition from traditional 2D/3D workflows to immersive VR experiences.

For more ideas and inspiration, looking into landscaping Tucson AZ projects could highlight firms or designers already incorporating VR technology into their real-world designs. VR is definitely opening up exciting possibilities for site analysis, plant layout visualization, and enhancing client engagement in landscape architecture.

  • Yes, VR is starting to gain traction in landscape design—SketchUp and Revit models can already be ported into VR with plugins, and some firms are experimenting with Unreal/Unity for immersive walkthroughs. It definitely feels like the next step beyond 2D/3D renders
