3D Stereoscopic Animation Flick
Hi,
We are trying to make 3D Stereoscopic VR animations. We did a lot os tests, and we still can't resolve an image flickering problem, that I think it is high latency.
We did a TGA sequence of - 4096 x 2048 (360 degrees) at 60Fps for each eye. Than we edited it at After Effects and exported a Quick Time movie with side by side frames. We exported with another codecs like .mp4, .FLV, .WMV with the same problem. We tried with lower resolutions with the same problem. The IPD is 64mm.
We tried VRPlayer and Kolor Eyes 1.4 without success an we managed to run with LiveViewRift v3.13.1.
The movie starts very smooth, with zero latency, zero flickering and no lag, but randomly it start to flick for a while and suddenly it stops. I can run it for 10 times without any flickering and then it starts to flick and stops randomly. I can't see any pattern on that behavior.
I have dowloaded on Oculus Share the 3D movie The_Cryogenian_PC and we had the same flickering problem, with some times running it smooth and some times it flicks.
The Oculus Rif is with DK2Firmware_2_12.ovrf, we are using it with Extended Desktop to the HMD. The Rift is the main monitor and runs at 60hZ WITH 1920X1080, with 90 degrees rotation. I have tried 72Hz and 75Hz but at 60Hz it runs best on our tests.
Another issue with our test movie is when we look at our back the Stereoscopic effect gets inverted.
The System OS is Windows 8.1, with Intel I7, 3.19 GHz- 6 cores, 24GB of Ram and the video CARD is a GTX690 running with SLI on (With SLI off it flicks too)
Here is a link for the test movie:

- hiredgoonHonored GuestI've been experiencing similar playback issues on 360 stereo videos but mostly dropped frames and audio hiccups. Did you find a solution to your problem above?
Also, I was keen to check out your video but for some reason the wetransfer file does not want to download. Do you have it in another location to download?
Cheers
Kain - DlightHonored GuestHi Kain,
Actually it seems that it not works well with windows 8. I have tried to run on a Windows 7 (SP 1), with a GTX 750 with 16 GB of RAM, and it goes with virtually zero latency. I have tried too with a Notebook with Windows 8.1 and a GTX 980M (8 GB) and 16 GB of RAM, but it can't run smooth either.
It is pretty confusing, because if I install Windows 7 in the notebook it did not run smooth again. I can't see the logic here but the good thing is that it runs on a GTX 750 whit Windows 7.
I'm making a lot of tests with different hardware and I will post the results here.
Thanks,
Leo
