3D Streetview?

Sadly the only real way to do this effectively in my opinion is to build a 3d world.
This is what i believe Goggle street view stereo is actually does, it works well for flat surfaces like buildings but if you look at trees or anything vaguely organic you can tell it is not a true stereo image.
edit: My initial skepticism I think is unfounded, looking at the links above you would need to be really careful about the position of the pivot point of both cameras but it does appear very possible (although I have no idea what would happen if you tilt your head and not sure what it would do to the stitching of the images).
