Affordable VR 'walking' locomotion input
I'm early prototyping my latest whacky idea....
It's not strictly an omni directional treadmill like the Omni or Virtualiser although with socks and a polished floor you could probably use it as one....
I should be able to do everything they do though, forward/back, strafe, unlimited turning, crouch (and hopefully jump too)...
oh and did I mention it should be doable for under $50?? :p

comments welcome.... expect a 'working' prototype shortly :)

- leoburtonHonored GuestGreat idea. As someone who's building his own ODT as well, I can appreciate the ring design. I'm trying to adapt some used bike rims but it's not very pretty. Your design looks quite sleek.
Looking forward to seeing a prototype. - feelthreeHonored Guest

Thanks, I'm reasonably sure I can cut a nearly perfect circle with a jigsaw... :p
A laser cut version would really look amazing, but I'll try to get the ugly one working first :) - leoburtonHonored GuestDid you see this guy's ODT? Its in spanish but you can get the drift. He uses GlovePIe on a Wii, and a makeshift bike rim/belt support system. Its a great DIY rig!
Playing Alien Isolation is a must for an ODT.

There is also another more refined DIY version on mtbs3d, you have to log in to see him pictures but it's a 4 pillar clone of the omni/virtualiser.

- OculusRiftRocksExplorerdo you plan to sell the hipsteer, when I look around your website all I get is pages about some other product where someone is sitting in a half dome like object.

I've made a prototype and need to add the electronics. It's a preliminary idea, and then you wait for the thousands to say 'OMG that's amazing'.... and keep waiting... so perhaps, if it works and then people become interested...
My VR motion simulator is much more popular so that takes priority... - OculusRiftRocksExploreroh right.
I take it that product is for cockpit only games, as I don't see why would anyone want that for the majority of games (fps,3rd person actions etc.) - feelthreeHonored GuestDriving, racing, flight sims, space sims.... and then addons for hang gliding, paragliding, surfing, motorbiking and even a moving treadmill version...
Or just put cushions inside and chill in VR...
Join the raffle, you never know... :) - leoburtonHonored GuestI've made a prototype and need to add the electronics. It's a preliminary idea, and then you wait for the thousands to say 'OMG that's amazing'.... and keep waiting... so perhaps, if it works and then people become interested...

Can we see a photo of the prototype? I am very curious. Thanks
