Anyone know a good place to buy sound effects for a project?
Hello I am curious as to where I can find a good site for purchasing sound effects for a Horror / Mystery game? This my first time going at a project completely solo. I do have simple audio gear but I would be interested in purchasing sound effects rather than trying to produce all of them myself. Thank you in advance.

- captaintripsExplorerWhat your looking for is stock sounds... some are royalty free, some are not. All sorts of sites out there that either charge or they don't... some with really good selections and sound clip libraries...
start here:
http://audiojungle.net/
I've used that in the past with Adobe Premeire video editing and such for sound fx.
There's also a good list of other sites here, but definitely not limited to these:

- drashHeroic ExplorerI found a few decent free clips (most loopable) at freesound.org. You'll have to pay attention to the licensing for each one though, but most of the time they just require attribution.

They have good deals if you know you're going to need a lot of them, say 50 or a 100 (and know what you need).
Make a shopping list first, though. - mfalxHonored GuestI have used http://www.soundsnap.com/ a few times. Excellent quality.
- MarkDeaneExplorerThank you for all of the replies I really appreciate it.
- VaerraentHonored GuestThere're also free sounds - looking for 'creative commons'-licensed sound effects should help, Freesound has some, for example (though you may find more via Google). Be aware of the license - if you want to sell the game, you'll want to stick with the basic CC licensed sounds and avoid the ones with non-commercial or 'sharealike' clauses. You should be able to use public domain material, too - be sure to include the wilhelm scream in there somewhere!
- BigDaddyHonored GuestI agree with many here I usually use audio jungle ( get the most bang for your buck), along with sound rangers, music loops, and audio sparx, and you can sometimes get lucky with Sound bible and Freesound.

I've been myself thinking of horror with Rift and ambient sounds and effects have always been the best source of scary atmosphere. Fiddling with different sounds in Audacity can result in very freaky sounds if placed in a right place at a right time.
