Anyone working to get unofficial Linux support?

We are getting near to commercial release of Oculus. Today is still possible to use DK1 and DK2 under Linux, with unofficial support... The source code of the SDK will be released? does anyone know of some open source project to give unofficial support for Oculus under Linux?

It is common to find products without official support for Linux working anyways, due to the effort of some great developers.

Thanks for your time!

  • The SDK and Runtime are not open source, and it would be a LOT of work to try to create an open source Linux alternative. I don't want to say it's impossible, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort.
  • I can understand that you put your efforts in the most popular platform.

But close the door completely to developers of Linux/Mac without giving to them a chance of make their own drivers/experiments is frustrating for the people who believed in your promise to make Oculus multiplatform.

It doesn't exists a concrete deadline for support.

It doesn't exists the will for an experimental or unstable support in the meantime.

There is people who was working very hard on those platforms because they got support once and they didn't expect to be abandoned by your company.

Palmer Luckey started Oculus with a vision of shared knowledge and make the technology accesible by everyone... the signal we got from this abandon, is that this is not true anymore.
  • Well. Linux support might return in the future. It's not totally out of the picture, but it's also not a high priority as everyone is focused on the launch for Windows currently.
