Blink - Doctor Who Fangame (Weeping Angels)
Us:
We are an indie company that is focusing on entertainment and games. We love the passion and the way Doctor Who fans take it so seriously

Story:
The story begins when the Doctor wakes up in the middle of a field wondering where he is. He has no memory of his past lives at this point. (The reason we did this is because, we want to introduce Doctor Who to people who have never watched it before, as well as fans alike) You get to sonic things and get the fez scared off of you with the Weeping Angels. Along side with the (optional) latest technology in virtual reality, the Oculus Rift. When you blink in real life, you blink in the game.

- PokeyHonored GuestUnless you have mechanics that are related to looking at things, like Medusa enemies or something, this blink thing sounds like an unnecessary complication.

The Weeping Angels of Doctor Who were introduced in an episode titled 'Blink'. Detecting player blinking is in fact a very important mechanic in any game that would involve them. The whole idea is that they are aliens who movie incredibly fast, but turn into statues when anything or anyone is looking at them (including each other). So you're safe from one as long as you're staring at it, but if you blink it will come towards you. If they can touch you, then they can send you back in time and letting you live out your life in the past while they feed off the temporal energy that results from this.
It's very timey-wimey. - geekmasterProtegeYour blacked out spoiler text explains it. I did not see that episode. It does sound critical to the game. Detecting blink would be awesome as you try hard not to blink except when safe to do so.
- PokeyHonored GuestI would think it would take energy to send someone back in time, not generate energy. I hate Dr Who. Timey-wimey indeed.
And that makes more sense. Automatically making them blink every 30 seconds sounds harsh. Maybe the longer your eyes stay open, the blurrier the screen gets or something. Preventing yourself blinking in real life is about endurance and focus, not timing. - kaetemiHonored GuestHah, awesome. Yeah, the Rift should definitely have blink detection.
- erickHonored GuestIn my personal opinion, a blink mechanic would be tedious and obnoxious. I like Doctor Who and the idea is interesting, but I expect most players would get annoyed.

Honestly, I disagree. Blinking was rarely the issue. The issue was primarily not to look away. Seriously, there's no reason you can't blink with one eye at a time and dissolve this whole concern about the need to blink. I think I even remember Rory doing it in one episode.
I'd recommend simply sticking with only a "look at" mechanic. - MadarasExpert ProtegeI think this is (and I quote) a "Fantastic" Idea. Now I also agree with a previous writer who mentions your vision blurring the longer you go without blinking, because in reality it's what starts to happen. We blink much more often than we realize, but when we try not to the pain becomes clear.

Basically energy given off as the universe adjusts to the fact they won't live their life any move, everything they effect has been changed and they make changes to the past. - pictonicstudioHonored GuestSo we entered a alternate version of this experience into the VRJam.
Here is our second marker video. - pictonicstudioHonored GuestJerryDean and I are not getting rid of the Weeping Angels. It is just that in the meantime we don;t want to get sued. So were are going with the Dalek's for now. But this is a short demo of what it is. I will post the download shortly
