Blurred lenses towards the outside normal?

Noob questions here...

I have only tried the default A lenses so far but with or without glasses my view is blurred towards the outer parts of the lenses and anything off centre.

Is this normal? What if anything can be adjusted? Will the B lenses be different or have the same curvature / out of focus blur off centre?

  • I had the same problem, try using the B lenses wearing your glasses.

The whole glasses thing needs some re-working though for the retail version. Wearing glasses within the unit is a pain when you have to lift the headset off to see your monitor or keyboard. Literally a pain actually when you don't get the placement right and you end up with your glasses' lenses pressed into your eyeballs!

I have this exact problem. I am wearing my contacts, and the outside of my left eye is blurry.
  • I don't wear glasses and I get this too. Maybe it's normal? For instance in Elite:Dangerous, I have to look at the power readout (put it in the sweet spot) to make it sharp otherwise it's blurry when outside of fovea for either eye.

With or without my glasses with the A lense in I get it. I'm hoping that it's the same for everyone but people just don't notice or care enough about it. I haven't edited the IPD, should I be playing with that?
  • I have attached my eyesight test results in case anyone can decipher which lenses I am meant to use? :geek: :)

I'm pretty sure I'm almost exactly the same and I'm finding it best with B lenses, however, the biggest increase in comfort came in using the config tool's 'Advanced' settings to make minor adjustments as well as moving the eye relief about until I was happy. After all that the chromatic aberration had a bigger, better sweet spot that I could find with moving the headset to the right vertical position on my face.

Ok, I'll try the B lenses, I'm just so chicken to scratch them or the screen in the process! Cheers.

Edit: Oh and I did calibrate some more and it is better now with A lenses, but not perfect, so worth a go with B.

Those are the brakes when you use plastic lenses. The dispersion is pretty high, causing both blurring and lots of chromatic aberration.

Unfortunately high quality optical glass would definitely increase the price considerably. But then the image would be sharp enough that the screen door would really stand out, so you need a potentially expensive lenticular diffuser too. Its going to be a tricky balance.
