Breaking The Two Party System

The big name in consoles are X-Box and Playstation. Both I love and use, however as this guy says http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/zclvhd/pach-attack--who-will-profit-the-most-from-next-gen- It will be difficult to get the Oculus to integrate with the next gen systems coming out soon. Games have already been produced and the system's development is reaching its end. I have a pretty decent computer and love to upgrade it, though when it comes to gaming I have always preferred console gaming, with a few exceptions like RTS games. I believe this preference lays with many people in the world. Trying to explain why this preference exist isn't easy, consoles feel right and I'm sure many aspects add up to that feeling. So I believe the time has come for a new console to rise above the stale remade consoles of old. One devoted to VR. A console with fresh ideas. We don't need a call of duty 27; final fantasy 52; tales of **20; ect...All games I love, all games that have been redone many times final fantasy has practically killed itself tales of has been going down hill. So let's bring in new game ideas with a new console. The innovation brought about by the Oculus Rift, the Omni, the Ouya; the Hydra. We have so much independent innovations come out so let's turn gaming on it's head. Whether a device is made in conjunction with Oculus or made to expressly support. If you are developing a console, or know of one in development, please reply. If you believe there needs to be a new console, please add your input. If you disagree feel free to express yourself. I am no inventor, I'm a story writer, a philosopher, a computer technician, and a gamer with great hopes for the future. I look forward to hearing from you all.

  • As for a new console, there have been rumours about the ValveBox...

I just looked into the Valve Box and it does seem like a great system, I haven't always been a big fan of Valve, but they appear to be doing a lot of support towards VR. So I would be greatly surprised if they put out that system without VR support. Thank you for introducing the device to me http://www.theverge.com/2013/2/6/3958162/valve-steam-box-cake I hope that it makes it to market.
  • Perhaps the coming flood of cheap fast android embedded PCs will be the next form of consoles - all similar to the Ouya and faster and faster models getting available all the time.
You can use them as a network movie player and as a game console. Most of them are only slightly larger than a USB stick and don't use much power so with a USB power pack and a HMD they are quite portable.

Need better software support for HMDs and android, though.
There is a Unity plugin for Android for the OpenDive, I guess it could also be used for the Rift... at least partly.

On Windows, the Rift doesn't take any special hardware to run (besides the Rift itself), it's almost entirely software from the OS point of view. I don't really see tech finalization being a big detracting argument against Rift integration with next-gen consoles. However, what I think would be a large issue is the political aspect. Currently Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo all build their own peripherals (with the occasional exception of controllers). It might be difficult to talk these companies into adding on third-party devices.
