Can my laptop run DK2 ?
Hello all !
Since this question often comes back, let's discuss about this matter on single thread to avoid redudancy of threads.
As far as I am concerned here is my laptop configuration:
I7-3630QM @2.40HZ(8 CPUS)
6gb of ram
AMD Raedon HD 7600M series
I am worried about the GPU, I am sure that I wont be able to run latest games at 1080p/60 fps but do you think that I still can run some demos at a comfortable resolution / fps ?
Thank you for your answers and don't hesitate to ask questions about your laptop as well !

- MrsVRHonored GuestI just ordered MSI GT72 because I need a portable solution, hope it does the trick :/ I read that it doesn't use Nvidia Optimus, I hope that's true.
Specs:
GeForce GTX970M 3GB,
Core i7-4720HQ,
16GB RAM - cyberealityGrand ChampionLaptops are not recommended at all. Some particular machines will work but, in general, you'll be disappointed.
- MrsVRHonored GuestBah, I have no choice :( Should I expect it to be absolutely terrible?
Can't wait for 90hz. - AshlesProtege

I got a DK2 running on my Surface Pro 3 which is basically a tablet/laptop. Low frame rates but I got it working well enough to run a presentation to senior guys in my company who were fairly blown away (I showed them 'Welcome to Oculus').
It's never going to be high end but it can certainly work for some demos.
(But now I have a Gear VR demos are going to be a lot easier... :D ) - cyberealityGrand ChampionThe main issues is with multi-GPU and switchable graphics (i.e. Nvidia Optimus, CrossFireX, etc.). I know some people are still using laptops (even when it's not recommended) with mixed results.
In some cases you will get slow framerates, judder, issues with games crashing, black screens, BSODs. It's just not a good idea. In other cases, it may technically run but be slow compared to a desktop of similar price.
If you need something portable, maybe look into Gear VR. - MrsVRHonored GuestI just need it to show clients t_t "Well it's buggy and judders and it crashes but I promise it doesn't do that if you invest in a 1k desktop!" eheheheh. :(

I have tried some demos that were not on 1080p and I wasnt disappointed at all the experience was still fantastic. - oXisHonored Guest

I have a GT72 with a GTX980M. I can confirm that it doesn't use Optimus. You have a switch button to use Intel HD or Nvidia, reboot needed. - MrsVRHonored GuestI decided to get Asus GT51JT instead (it was cheaper). Exact same GPU and CPU, AFAIK it does use Optimus, but Rift runs perfectly smooth (tested built in demo scene and tuscany demo)! Direct mode no problem, zero judder, zero arguments from windows or bios. Yay!!
Edit: Now if only the camera would turn on.... - tmason101Honored Guest

Seconded; works very well.
I don't know why Oculus doesn't simply build a list of approved laptops; lugging around a suitcase build for demos is simply impractical and unsightly for professional environments and demos.
