CES 2014 Reveal
Regarding IGN's hands on of the new Rift...

I was at first surprised that Oculus implemented an external tracking solution to the next version of the Rift.
Looks sparkly and somehow feminine, like half my wife's bags. :)
Happy to see an OLED screen. But does anybody have info on resolution?

- ncwolfHonored GuestNo resolution released from Oculus. We assume it's 1080 since that has been the goal, but we don't know for sure.
- svenProtegePlease don't start yet another thread. There are a bunch on this topic already.
- adentHonored GuestHi, just joined this forum. I haven't looked in depth at the new version of the rift at CES, but I can see it has this external tracking camera solution. Intel have been demoing another item at CES - Intel Real Sense:

I was wondering whether this or similar technology could be used to bring your hands and body into the VR environment. It is like a Kinect sensor but shrunk down so it could fit in a laptop - say instead of the Web Cam or perhaps pointing down under the rift (I was thinking). One of the easiest tricks to pull with it is to use the depth data to substitute an alternate background for objects that are within a certain distance of the sensor. So, I was thinking that if you attached one of these to the Oculus rift - pointing down - it could be used to mask out everything but your hands/arms and body.
Anyone thinking along those lines... - adentHonored GuestYou can probably see what I mean a bit better in this you tube video - look at how they have managed to isolate the monkey from the background:

- DrawMonkeyHonored GuestThis may be slightly off topic but I'm not a usual forum user. Sorry if this is not proper etiquette.
On the topic of the Crystal Cove DK though, does anybody know if that's the version that will be bundled with the promising Panono 360 camera? - ncwolfHonored Guest

As far as we know, the only thing released at all is the DK1. There was an HD DK (let's call it DK1.2) sent out to some major developers (according to some videos we saw), but that's it. I highly doubt anything other than the DK1 will be bundled with anything released for now, until Oculus releases a new version. - DrawMonkeyHonored Guest

Thanks for the headsup. - GhostshipExplorerDo we have any approx dates when the hi-def dev kit will be released? we have heard lots about it, but us developers have not heard anything.
Our game is designed for high def and we plan on releasing in April, we would prefer not to release a native oculus version before testing it on a high def rift.
We also have been offered a spot at the UK gameExpo in Birmingham in march, I would prefer to showcase our reveal in hi-def as that is what it is designed for. The low res is the only thing which is a little off putting at the moment. Are we likely to see a release before march? - ncwolfHonored Guest@Ghostship - I recommend you contact Oculus directly to inquire because it most definitely has not been released to the public (just like I mentioned in my last post). We (I, other's may have seen more, dunno) have seen two video's released by bigger game developers with HD dev kits on their heads, so we assume it has been released to a select few. Whether this be because they were early investors, major investors, larger developers, etc., who knows. Good luck.
