Crescent Bay headphones a joke??
should not be attached where you can't use your own headphones..
personally earbuds are best like the Bose QC20 where it is active noise cancelling
its far superior than over ear because the bass is deep because of the seal
no overear as it heats up the ear as well

- renderingpipeliHonored GuestAFAIK they are optional, read: you can detach them and use your own. Also: Palmer is said to be a audio geek so the integrated headphones are probably not too bad.
- drashHeroic Explorer@AntDX316, the Tested interview with Palmer (last part of the video) should address your concerns:

I am personally concerned as to whether I will be able to adjust the *placement* of the included headphones. I need to wear a hearing aid in the right ear, and the microphone for it is about 2 inches higher than my ear canal. If the placement isn't adjustable, then it's a good thing they are detachable. :) - AntDX316Honored Guestshould be inear instead of over ear for best sound reproduction

True, but not everyone likes in-ear and you definitely don't want in-ear for a demo unit. - bigmike20vtVisionary1) they are optional.
2) this isnt even a beta (/dev kit) its an internal prototype only which is being used to demo at shows etc.
For all we know by the time CV1 ships they may be much better quality.**
basically I think you guys are worrying about nothing :)
**That being said, personally, I hope not. Sure include a pair, much like the xbox 360 and its freebie headset, that way devs know everyone has them, but for many of us it would be added expense for something we do not need, given many of us already have a headset. So long as it is detachable who cares?.
edit....
I just listened to the following..... at the very end palmer lucky chats about the sound. Basically he says, they look cheap because its a pre-release internal unit but looks aside, they are more advanced than the vast majority of headsets that most gamers have. I think oculus have shown enough to earn our trust and we should take their word for it. :)

Ok shut this down... - VrallyProtege

Are you kidding me?
There are much much better headphones than Bose for less money- no true audiophile would touch Bose, have a look around on such websites- they do not rate Bose for what they are or the price asked.
Oculus have already stated the headphones on the Crescent Bay are high-quality, they just did not put any effort it to making them look good- if looks are important to you when buying a set of headphones, you're not paying attention imo. - GodmademedoitHonored Guest

I was gonna say, firstly there's a hygeine issue with in-ear monitoring between multiple users, but also this kind of thing goes against everything I've been taught or experienced as a sound engineer - good quality closed back headphones not only provide more accurate bass reproduction but generally better sound reproduction when compared to earbuds.
They also provide better isolation from outside sounds, which will greatly enhances immersion, and reduce spill into the outside world, which greatly reduces your chances of getting hacky looks when listening to death metal on the train. There's a certain level of subjectivity with sound but these are largely objective, measurable benefits.
Of course the headphones on the new prototype aren't closed back and look crap, so I'm glad they're removable :D - I was planning on using my Audio Technica ATH M50s, which for the price are really nice and have fantastic isolation.
