Cross-platform testing?
What's the best way for a Windows user like me to test cross-platform applications for the Oculus Rift? Without buying a new computer, hard-disk, or OS, I mean.
I assume I can download some sort of Linux and run it from a DVD, USB, or virtualized...
But what Linux should we be targeting and what's the best way?

- BoffExplorerI don't know how well (or if at all) the Rift works with virtualisation, but if it's just to test if your demo actually runs or not then a Virtual Machine might be the way to go.
For Linux: If you have enough space on your HDD you could partition it off and install Linux. You could then dual-boot between Linux and Windows. I haven't used Linux for a couple of years so don't know what the best flavour is. Not sure if it can be done with a Live-CD (run from CD/DVD/USB) either sorry.
For OSX: You could set up an OSX VM in Windows to cover all the bases. See here for OSX VM info: http://www.souldevteam.net/blog/
Haven't tried using a Rift through a VM though.
Hope this helps! - cyberealityGrand ChampionYou can run Linux from a live-CD, and then create storage on disk or USB drive for persistence.

Virtual Box is free and lets you make mini computers inside your computer. Performance will not be as good but you can def test compatibility by setting up multiple boxes with different OS. There might be a learning curve, but check out youtube video tutorials on setting up different types of OS. This is the best free solution I can think of.
