DELTA SIX open source gaming gun on Kickstarter

Delta Six gaming gun with open source firmware is now on Kickstarter for $159 with their campaign going very well:

It features Arduino compatible innards, and latency on the prototype looks awfully high during demo for Engadget:

Delta Six gaming gun will initially retail for $225(US) after the Kickstarter campaign.

Just a little too expensive in my mind, but it might go down in price after it have matured for a couple of years.

That's a heck of a lot of money for an IMU in a plastic gun body, though the force-feedback and clever microswitch placement (until the magazine snaps off) go a little to explaining it.
  • I hope your headphones don't prevent you from hearing the SWAT team shouting "drop your weapon" after a neighbor spotted you though the window while you are in VR using this realistic-looking virtual weapon.

Probably a good idea to close the blinds/drapes/shutters while using this device.

(Nosy neighbors who call the police because the grass in your back yard is "too tall" are why everybody put up tall privacy fences around here, but they CAN see in the windows...)

I'm guessing that's why the tip will be orange for the production version. I was worried about it coming across looking too real too!
  • So, are you saying the SWAT team will not shoot you if you paint the tip of a REAL gun orange? I think they will if you do not drop it when ordered to do so, even with an orange tip...
