Development for Touch and room space...on Rift
Hiya
How are you all getting around developing for Touch/Hand controls, and room space...presuming that you currently have CV1?
I have DK2 and CV1 should be on its way (NZ/Aus batch), however obviously this doesn't have the touch yet.
The game I working on will have a first person, hand control component, and actually a spacial area (room scale) but can start reasonably small
Im not really keen on buying a Vive as well $$$. But perhaps that is the best way to support both systems?
I do have leap motion, so maybe that is my only option for now?
Any one else in this situation?
Cheers

- pjennessRising StarIs no one else developing for tracked hands? Or is everyone purely waiting for the touch to come out?
- Leap can do hand tracking. But the problem is finger movement can't be tracked from all angles, so using it to match Touch button use will be problematic. But some interactions should be fine.
Razer Hydras can do it too, the range is small but they can mimic most Touch features. Although finding a Hydra if you don't already own one isn't easy. - pjennessRising StarYeah I have leap and can use that, but a big limitation is your hands HAVE TO BE in view of the leap camera (ie infront of your face) . Also...Im holding an xbox controller :/
Plus, Touch will be the major hand controller for the Rift platform. Im not sure what the story is with developing for its release, when they are not available to the public at the moment
Most likely I'll need to work with to Leap Motion shortly to mimic touch as much as can, but the problem I have is, my game is controller (for character movement) and hand (for interaction), unfortuantely leap while holding a Xbox controller is not going to work well.
Really need the touch and be able to see how that controls, and button on them, lend to mimicking similar functionality to the xbox controller, as well as first person hand interaction.
-P - You can apply to oculus to get Touch early. They don't give it out to everyone, but there's a chance you can get them if you have a good use for them.

I think that ship has sailed. Have tried.
But fair enough. Im not a big dev, and doing this as I can. Maybe if I can demo the rest of the game, then getting the touch then might be more negotiable. ..
But at my rate, it'll probably be out to the public by then any way :)
-P - Yeah, based on the current quality of the dev versions (and packaging), it's hard to imagine Touch will be much longer. But then again we all know what Oculus is like at getting devices to the user. :)
- jtelferProtegeContact Oculus. That's how I got my kit. I looked at Leap Motion but it's just not functional/precise enough. Other than hoping a hydra would pop up cheap on eBay or getting a Vive (like OP, not easy on the wallet) I was stuck.
