Direct mode issue with DK2?

I've been having a problem where whenever I enable direct mode, only a few games seem to work (that from what I understand are built with the 0.4 SDK). For whatever reason the display is not outputted to the Oculus Rift. The Config demo does work, and so does the Legend of Zelda forest demo, but for some odd reason, most of the other ones do not.

If I switch to extended mode, that solves the issue, but my monitor is also flipped and it becomes incredibly difficult to navigate. Anyone else having this issue with direct mode?

did you try flipping the screen? by default it is in portrait mode, but it should be mirrored landscape.

    edit:
Btw most demos only work in extended mode.
  • The only game I can get to work with direct mode is Oculus World demo. Everything else that supposedly supports it simply crashes unless I do extended mode.

I had the same issue, the solution that I found, involves turning off DK1 compatibility.

In the display properties/ screen resolution menu ( on windows only ),
set the oculus to Landscape Flipped ( 1920x1080 )
    and multiple displays to extend.
set the DK2 display to the default/main screen.

You will then have each game launch on the rift, but you will have to work some skillful magic to figure out where your mouse is with one eye at a time and then click the start button.

Some of the games will have weird defaults but so you will need to set them manually to 1920x1080p, again with one eye at a time navigating the mouse.

Sometimes you can hold down the windows key and hit the arrow keys and get the window to navigate to the other screen.

I hope this get's fixed, because it's really frustrating, and it only works on a few more demos than you listed initially. I'm still trying to get other demos working too.
  • Sounds like a real pain. Probably won't be doing that, but thanks for the tip.

I think you should be able to get the sdk version of the tuscany demo to work as well. Inside the SDK folder its called "Oculus World Demo".

There is also the Tiny Room demo in the SDK but you need to compile that, or maybe search the forums for someone who already has.

Many unity demos are starting to get dk2 support but only in extended desktop mode.

I think the Direct to HMD feature is new in 0.4, and since people only had that for a week and many does not have dk2. It is really understandable why this feature is not so used yet.
