Direct mode issue with DK2?

I've been having a problem where whenever I enable direct mode, only a few games seem to work (that from what I understand are built with the 0.4 SDK). For whatever reason the display is not outputted...

Sounds like a real pain. Probably won't be doing that, but thanks for the tip.
