DirectToRift works When Extended mode doesnt, and viceversa
I am getting strange results when running my OpenGL project on different machines.
win7+9800 : Only DirectToRift works
win8+nvidia+laptop : Only DirectToRift works
win7+gtx645 : Extended desktop works fine, but DirectToRift mode "runs" at 0.1 FPS.
These are all NVidia cards with latest drivers.
I actually wanted all 3 to use extended desktop...
What causes oculus library to work in one mode, but not the other on the same machine?

- cyberealityGrand ChampionYou say it doesn't work, but what happens? Is there a black screen, a crash, error message?
If you are in Extended Mode, do you see the desktop split inside the headset? Does head-tracking work?
Also, I thought DirectToRift was only for Unity games. Is this a Unity demo or straight custom OpenGL?
If you get super slow FPS it probably means Aero is disabled (it needs to be on). - MatlockHonored Guest>>>>You say it doesn't work, but what happens? Is there a black screen, a crash, error message?
on win8+extended mode, the oculus double circle view appears on the main screen, and oculus is black.
I am unable to drag the window to "second monitor" because there isn't one. Windows doesn't think it is in extended desktop mode. Maybe I was supposed to do something in display properties. Like extend desktop to oculus device. Ill try that next time I am on win8 machine. I try to avoid those.
But direct to rift mode works, So we can move forward anyways....
This is a custom opengl engine. BTW.

Aero is on, but you should know that the code, in the Tuscany demo for example, turns off Aero on win7. Were you referring to win8 about the aero? - cyberealityGrand ChampionI haven't seen the Tuscany demo disable Aero, so I don't know why that would happen for you. From everything I've been told, you always need to have Aero turned on in Windows 7 (for Win 8 I don't think it uses it anymore).
If you go into Extended Mode and the DK2 is still black, that is not normal. It may mean that the DK2 monitor is disabled in Windows or in the GPU control panel. Make sure it is enabled, and set to extended desktop (clone/duplicate won't work). - MatlockHonored GuestDisabling aero/dwm seems to be an opengl only thing....
Anyone interested search for DwmEnableComposition in Tuscany code.
