Distortion presets for 3D stills/video in the Rift?
This is something I thought about just now when responding to another thread, and this question is specifically regarding stereoscopic rendering from a CGI program. I've done a lot of CGI work over the years, and I've quite a bit of familiarity with traditional "flat" 3D rendering for film and TV and such.
Let's say I wanted to take a simple 3D still frame and set it up so that it displays properly in the Rift. Minus head tracking and all that, just a single still frame. But I need to apply the correct barrel distortion and chromatic aberration to the images so that they can be viewed properly.
Are there some presets somewhere for this sort of thing? Or some basic information on what types of lens distortion to do? Or is it really as simple as feeding it a normal side-by-side image through the runtime and letting it do it for me? My Rift isn't here yet, so I haven't been able to just try this stuff.
And on a mostly separate subject, but I didn't want to clutter the forums:
Remember Quicktime VR? That thing where it loaded a 360 still and you could pan all around? Is there currently a way to do that for the Rift? To load up a 360/180 degree still-frame and use the Rift to look around in every direction?

- eagleeyezProtegeTake a look at cinema 360 for 360 videos, this just got updated for the DK2 and yes SBS is all you need. In fact many formats work in the rift with the right software. But if you use Unity pro, you can do SBS directly on a texture and use the oculus plugin to watch it. Easy as that.
