DK2 on Bootcamp (iMac)
Hey guys,
So my DK2 arrived today - I updated the firmware and downloaded the latest SDK, exactly as the documentation said. I'm on an iMac desktop with Windows 7 installed on a Bootcamp partition - since most games run natively on Windows I didn't think there would be any issues with this. I started by default in direct to Rift mode and ran the config tool, and wow! The desk scene worked perfectly! Head tracking, resolution and all.
My problem is, I can't seem to open any other 3rd party apps. If I choose direct mode, the LED on the headset stays orange when I open a game, and it either displays on my primary monitor or crashes entirely. If I use extended mode, I then have to rotate the screen orientation to portrait, and while the Rift monitor does work, the resolution is completely wrong. It's as if the image has been stretched by half horizontally, and changing the resolution in my desktop settings does nothing.
Am I missing something obvious here? I've heard about minimal MAC support but I thought this was only the case while using the OSX operating system. Can anyone help me out here so I can look at more than just a desk?
Thanks,
Adam

- andywhiteleyHonored GuestI'm using a MacBook Pro with Boot Camp and Windows 7 with the Oculus DK2.
I was initially having problems with the screen rotation.
What I did was to set the display up in Windows 7 to support dual monitors in extended mode.
So the main monitor is my laptop screen and the Oculus is my secondary monitor.
- AdamL288Honored GuestThank you, that works great! For anyone else having this problem, I'm currently using Cmd+Shift+left/right to move windows to the other monitor, combined with alt+enter to run demos in fullscreen on the Rift. Only downside is that other people can't see what you're seeing on the monitor, but hopefully the direct to rift mode will work on Macs soon :)
- AnonymousDirect To Rift mode is not yet implemented for Mac OS X but Direct To Rift mode works fine for me when my MacBook Pro is booted into Windows. If it's working for you on the Desk or Tuscany demos then it is working.
I suspect the issue you are running into is that many titles do not yet support Direct To Rift mode and those that do sometimes have issues. For these titles you have to do the extended desktop thing. Some titles require the Rift to be the main screen in extended mode which makes navigating the Windows GUI fun. You have to figure out the trick for each title. This is the case even on my PC.
This experience is clunky but remember these are the early days with a developer kit. Software is already being updated pretty quickly and I'm sure they'll have this stuff ironed out by the time the consumer edition comes along.
Also the rotation of the rift screen is normal. They used a portrait oriented screen but mounted it in landscape orientation in the headset. You just need to correct for that like you did using the display setup control panel. - mdwelshHonored GuestFor the folks on this thread, which MacBook Pro do you have, and how is the performance of the DK2 on it (in Windows or OS X)? I'm looking to upgrade my old MacBook Pro (2010) and want to be sure that a newer one will work well enough with the DK2, versus say a Windows-based gaming laptop. Thanks!
- Motab909Honored GuestHow have things gotten for other users of the DK2 on Bootcamp? I'm on a Mid-2010 i7 with an AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5800. (I'm waiting for the next refresh then I'll upgrade).
In the Catalyst Control Center I have Wait for Vertical Refresh set to "Always Off". I've got the Rift in extended mode as suggested above, only with the Rift set as the Primary Monitor. Then games launch right onto it.
I'm still getting judder though. Some games are good - Lava Inc runs great. But the Unity Demo, while running at a smooth 60+FPS in OS X mode, has terrible terrible judder in Windows 8.1. Any ideas?
