Emotiv EPOC
Many of you probably know about EEG headsets.
EEG headsets basically translate brainwaves, EEGs, into commands. Using EEG headsets, you can use your computer in anyway you want!
So I was looking at the Emotiv EPOC one day and I thought about how great it would be if both of these were combined!
So if anyone gets their hands on an EEG headset, try this out!
The headset would fit over the Oculus, and then if you would think about walking in virtual reality it would actually walk! Sort of like mind-control virtual reality!
This could be implemented in a sandbox where you use your mind to create your own virtual world.
So what do you guys think? Should this be implemented?

- TwitchmonkeyExplorerI have an Epoc around here somewhere, it never worked very well, the sensors have a hard time picking up anything unless your head is shaved and properly lubricated. Add in the rift and a pair of headphones and it's going to work even less well. I could definitely see the potential of this sort of technology, but the Epoc isn't it.

The Emotiv insight is slated for release this summer and eliminates the need for wet sensors.
Also, from what I've heard (I've been following EMOTIV for years, but you would know better given that you have actual experience) the device requires a great deal of training to learn to control your mind to the point where you can perform the same processes to any sort of predictable degree; so I am sure mileage may vary depending on how much time and effort one can afford towards the pursuit of a calm mind through some serious meditation.
It helps if you're a Mentat.
Has this been your experience with the EPOC as well?
http://emotiv.co/ - TwitchmonkeyExplorerIt's not a matter of not being able to perform the exercises, you always have sensors giving errors that they can't pick anything up so it just doesn't work at all. Not only that but it's shoddily made so you're constantly have to pick p the sensor pads off the ground and put them back in place whenever you put on or take off the device. Perhaps with enough setup the Epoc can work for a little while, but I don't think the current version is practical for frequent use. If you're that interested in the Epoc send me a PM, if you're in the US I might be able to send you mine. I think all the parts are there and I certainly don't plan on using it again.
- leftbigtoeProtegedon't get you hopes up too high guys, the bandwith with current brain computer interfaces is quite limited - and with that I mean it takes hours to write a normal letter with research grade EEGs and requires an enormous focus. Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of incredibly cool applications for consumer EEG, but for a whole while this will rather go into the direction of biofeedback applications like the Muse (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/muse-the-brain-sensing-headband).
Fine grained, dexterous control is in principle very hard to achieve with an EEG signal, this currently only works with invasive recordings, aka punching electrodes into the cortex. - japsanderHonored GuestEPOC "has" to be better than the OCZ NIA that i used to own
- AlphaOmegaHonored GuestThe design Is amazingly sleek and would integrate well with the Oculus.

+1 for the thought process. - TwitchmonkeyExplorerIf the original Epoc with its 16 sensors wasn't any good at picking up EEG activity, I really doubt that thing will do any better. It's pretty, but it doesn't look functional.
- flawExploreryeah, i think this sort of stuff is not practical as it exists right now.
but, hey, in a few years, maybe that's how we'll be playing games. you know how fast things move in computers.
