Equipment for Oculus??

I have a highly powerful custom built computer with a 660 ti graphics card. Everywhere I look people say an android phone has enough power to get the Oculus going. Will a powerful computer even make a difference on my soon to receieve Oculus rift? If not maybe in the near future when the graphics require higher graphic processing? I have a cheap 300 dollar laptop I would like to carry with me to show this device off but not sure If the cheap laptop would hinder the graphics on the Oculus itself?

Thanks guys! Great VR community. Proud to be apart of it :)

  • I believe that the only hindrance would be the program you're running. ex. a high intensity rift sim on that cheap computer is going to mean bad FPS. The built in Tuscany simulation isn't very intensive though and will most likely run smoothly.
  • It's the same as with games really.. some older games such as Half Life 2 run very fast even on old PCs.
You don't want to show off the Rift on a brand new game where the gfx runs at low FPS. 60fps is mandatory!
So: It really depends on the programs you plan to use! If you don't know which ones they'll be you better get a fast PC.
A $300 notebook computer with Intel graphics will have a hard time with anything released in the last few years.
