Eye Fatigue

I've had the DK2 for a couple of weeks now and I've noted that everyone in my household seems to be fine adjusting to it except for me. The judder has also improved with the addition of the -force-d3d11 argument in the command line (for Unity), and the latest firmware has had a positive effect on that as well.

I realize when my character is moving while I am looking around, I tend to get sim sickness. Now, this could be due to my machine not being the recommended spec as far as the video card goes-- I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580. But before I start looking at upgrading video cards, I wanted to be sure it was simple a framerate issue with my video card. So I just sat in the world for a bit, occasionally looking around at a fairly simple scene without busy textures at a high framerate with no judder etc. Nothing that I had in my view, nor my movements, looked slow from a lack of video card power.

What I found was something I'd describe as slightly different from sim sickness. My eyes started to hurt but it wasn't from movement. I was getting serious eye fatigue in a relatively short amount of time (maybe 5 min just sitting in one place). I don't think a better video card is going to solve that. Perhaps a nighttime scene would be better, putting less light on the eyes. Perhaps a higher resolution screen would improve it. In any case, I am now creating during the meat of the day, and doing a quick review of what it looks like in VR at the end of the day as that's the only way I can stomach VR development.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of serious eye fatigue?

UPDATE: I tried changing all of the lighting in my scene to nighttime and saw a drastic improvement in eye fatigue. I can now sit in the same spot and look around for a lot longer than I could in my originally lighted scene.
