Future Laptop support?
Any news on whether SDK 1.0 works on laptops? if not are there any plans to support laptops in the future?
If anyone knows of ways to get it working please let me know. I would like to be able to demo with my laptop.

- cyberealityGrand ChampionLaptops are not currently supported, and it's unlikely they will be supported in the near term.
- kerrynerdHonored GuestI have a MSI GT70 with a 880m and I am running the DK2 just fine. I might need to drop the graphics quality for some experiences but thats ok with me.
- owenwpExpert ProtegeThere is no way to know whether a specific laptop model will work short of trying it out, so if you are buying a new one expect to return a few. Specific laptop designs and chipsets have compatibility problems. Also, its possible that there might be specific problems with the consumer rift that don't affect the DK2. Its all at your own risk, unless you see some "works with Oculus" badge on the packaging, which nVidia mentioned would happen at some point.
- CaptainpetmacHonored GuestThe thing i don't understand is that my oculus worked on my laptop before.. but now it doesn't that doesn't seem like a hardware issue.
- cyberealityGrand ChampionOlder Oculus software was very very different to how it works now.

Interesting, did you have to make any configuration changes? I think the GT70 has optimus so I am surprised it works.
I am going to try this workaround

It would be good if the extended mode was re-introduced for developers in the interim, while the software/hardware situation for laptop support is sorted out. (I'm assuming extended mode worked on laptops). I know that hardware changes are most likely required on the NVidia/Intel side but until they make the changes necessary we need a solution. - cyberealityGrand ChampionExtended Mode is not coming back. Sorry.
- pjennessRising StarIf it is due to the GPU cards needed, its not impossible to use an eGPU
I did this for my DK2, and macBook Pro (see link in my signature)
Perhaps it will work (or not) , guess it depends on what about Laptops does not work.
(BTW my thread uses a Mac, which Oculus have clearly pointed out Apple will not be supported in the future. So at least start with a windows setup)
-P - AntDX3162Heroic ExplorerBecause thunderbolt 3 beta support exist for GTX graphics cards I think Oculus is working w/ them for people to be able to experience VR w/o having to have a Windows PC. Apple has Thunderbolt 3.0 on their latest devices I think and once they release new Apple desktops w/ 970 GTX or higher support should be massive. Bringing the Apple people on board for VR would be great. If their talent out weighs all potential Windows development people then it could be cool to port all the apps they make for Windows even if we took a slight percentage lose for it not being native after heavy optimized coding than have nothing at all.
I mean, we could just get another hard drive for dual boot selection on an Apple OS if it comes to that. Some good Apple apps cannot be seen for Windows. Can't even use commerical airline pilot software on Windows, Apple only.
