Game judder and poor performance on high spec machines only.

Hello,
I am consistently getting poor reviews and feedback on my game for users with high system specs and Oculus HMDs. I have rewritten the resolution setup code 3 times. It has now been reduced to 3 input boxes that go to Screen.SetResolution directly, so I cant see that being the reason. Some of the comments:

It's early access so needs alot of work. Issues I have with it are poor optimization running on i7 4790k, 980ti, 16 gigs ram. Lots of vomit inducing judder for me in cockpit despite my attemps to adjust graphics as low as possible. Third person view is alot more smooth, but not as fun for me personally. Also running latest runtime (0.8) for dk2 and latest nvidia drivers as of today.

Im getting quite a bit of judder on my system. Oddly enough its the same amount wether im on low or high fx.GTX980 on latest drivers
i7 4790k
8 gigs ram
win 10
All loaded on an SSD

Hi guys how to disable the main screen as a mirror screen because it's causing my rift to stutter when turning my head ingame think it's because fps drops??
System Specs :
Intel i5 3570
AMD R9 290
8Gb Ram
Oculus HMD version 1.10 (SDK 0.8.0.0)
HMD Firmware 2.12

I'm having the same issue with a GTX 980ti and an i5 6600 o/c'd past 4ghz. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to fix it yet. Everything else seems to be working just fine with the DK2.

I get major judder. Ive just updated to the latest Runtime and Nvidia drivers. On Windows 10 and Nvidia 970. All my other demos run fine. Tried lowering the graphics and no luck:( I'm on the .8 runtime using a single monitor (TV) I have an i7 4790k and a GTX980 all running on an SSD. I meet the reqs and only use one monitor.

The lowest common denominators have been 4k TVs and 9 series graphic cards. I have also noticed the note on Windows 10 Oculus compatability, is it simply Win 10 driving the poor performance?

Im at wit's end with this, so any insight would be really helpful.

Thanks
-Ryan

  • There was a bug with Nvidia GPUs that could result in high CPU usage on some systems (as high as 25% for basically doing nothing). This could explain the issue, though maybe there are other factors. The patch for this issue should arrive in the near future. In the meantime, maybe try profiling your game and looking for any bottlenecks.
  • Thanks CyberReality, I have just been reading your thread "0.7 BUG: Oculus Service consumes CPU on multiple uses" and I really hope that is the issue. My i7, amd gpu dev system has always worked beautifully, so it has been hard to diagnose on my end. When the new runtime is released, I will let you know if users still have the issue.
