Gigabyte Brix and DK2

Do you guys think it would be possible to get the Gigabyte Brix and run the DK2 off of that? Has anyone tried this?

  • Most Brix have only an Intel GPU, which is REALLY crap for vr (and most likely won't run at all with the latest runtime, seems only amd and nvidia are supported now).
The gaming Brix have a geforce 760, but that's below the recommended spec for the rift. Some things might run ok.

It's such a pity that there is no clear, easy to read info about required hardware for the DK2.

It's obviously at the point where users are very confused about what might or not might work.

Surely there is room on these pages for info that is easy to access and easy to understand?

Or don't Oculus really know what is required?
If they do they are very quiet about it or hide it away somewhere in some irrelevant readme text.

Obviously the message, if any, is not getting through, is it !?

I feel rather sorry for those who have lashed out their bucks on some super-duper setup only to find it doesn't work.

PLEASE give this issue some headlines. Your customers deserve it.

(it's a global sticky thread visible at the top of every forum section).

Minimum requirements for the Oculus Rift DK2: https://support.oculus.com/hc/en-us/art ... ment-Kit-2
(on Oculus Support knowledge-base, also included in the FAQ, which has a link on the order page).

    Powering the Rift: https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/powering-the-rift/
Official blog article detailing recommendations for the consumer Rift (though they also apply to DK2).

Not to mention, probably thousands of posts on the forum explaining how laptops don't work and the specific recommended video cards to buy. Sadly, people don't do the research.
  • Sorry, cybereality, but next time you respond know what you're talking about. The Brix is not a laptop, it's a mini-pc the size of a can. I wasn't asking about whether it would fulfill the requirements, I know it does. I was asking because of the small size, the overclocking of the mini graphics card and the power required to run all of this. No one has ever posted about this computer. So next time you're going to be rude and ignorant, maybe consider the context in which the questions are being asked.
  • Hmm, I wasn't actually responding to you. I was talking to enzedda.

Though I can see how it came off the wrong way. My apologies.

The GPU in the Brix is not a full desktop GTX760, it's a relabeled laptop GTX870M.
(Here's an article that explains why Nvidia changed the name: http://techreport.com/review/26818/gigabyte-brix-gaming-bxi5g-760-mini-pc-reviewed)

Hmm, at DK2 resolution it can get 14.2 fps in sleeping dogs, and 29.34 fps in Bioshock Infinite? It's not going to do well for VR gaming.

It doesn't use standard graphics cards, it's not upgradable.
