Google 3d Mapping on a Phone

I had the idea that you could put something similar to this technology on the front of the Rift so the user could navigate their surroundings with a full overlay of the world in real time. This would prevent all of the Oculus Rift fails on youtube where people get disoriented, fall and break stuff. Think of the possibilities, you could have a TV app where you could sit on your couch and have a virtual TV that's any size that you want. or you could make a slimmer star trek like goggles that people wear around like google glass but it's a full immersible overlay.
