HMD to use?

Hi,
I am building up a simulator using laser sensors ( Lidar) for a drilling firm. I am planning to use Velodyne HDL 32 E for it. I also wish to create a Virtual environment such that the person drilling can move around the objects in the virtual environment and predict the outcome of various drilling processes sitting in his office. I wish to know the HMD I can use for this purpose. Are there any good ones that help me accomplish this task?

Thanks

  • ? Well you are on the Oculus Rift developers forum so I will go out on a limb and suggest the Oculus Rift.
As far as I know it is the only HMD with tracking and SDK for it's price point, and although the resolution is currently sub-par they have demonstrated that there will be a high resolution one in the future.
I enjoy seeing the different suggestions and speculative posts in regards to it being used for industrial development. It just means there is that much more of a chance that VR is here to stay.

The Occulus Rift is a good idea although resolution is still bad and the Consumer version hasn't come out yet.

If you have a loooooooooooooooooooooot of money ( i.e. more than $12,000 USD), you could get an HMD from Sensics. They look good, but come at a huge price point.
