How do we develop for oculus touch?
How are developers supposed to prepare for launch when a oculus touch SDK has not been released. What are the plans for oculus touch? Is it not launching in 2016 with the final HMD product?
WHEN ???
WHEN ???

- FredrumExpert ProtegeI know it is frustrating. I just recently contacted them and asked them when the Touch dev kits wokld be available and just got the answer 'keep checking the website'. Maybe if you have something promising to show or some other credentials you can get more of a vip treatment.
I am planning to try and get hold of a Vive set as soon as possible as that might turn out to be faster.
Other options are bullale's ps move plugin ( i havent tried the latest yet ), score a razer hydra. Or possibly some other kind of tracking solution like kinect2 or one of those kickstarter ones.
Cheers
Fred - andrewtekMHCP MemberIf you want to develop for Touch, you can start with stand-ins. I am currently using the Leap Motion Controller with the VR Mount. Not a bad option, although mine has jumpy tracking. Since the Leap Motion Controller is CPU intensive, I am hoping that upgrading my computer this week (6700K... Yeah!) will solve this problem.
- MatlockHonored GuestI gave up on the Leap. Leap will not be used by Oculus consumers, because of touch. So it is a lost cause.

I cannot say what the future of Leap is. But, the device can be indispensable today if the following are all true:
1. You are a VR developer.
2. Your VR project(s) require hand presence.
3. You do not have access to the Oculus Touch controllers. - MatlockHonored GuestI attached the leap to the oculus hmd, and if you reach your arms all the way out, the leap loses tracking. Therefore it is not even capable of being used with oculus in this fashion. Leap is useless.

It is frustrating not having access to the controller or a clear idea on when they will be released.
While waiting I decided to setup what I consider to be the next best thing. It consists of a PS3, Camera, Move controllers and a piece of software available on the PS Store called Move.Me ($100). There is also a Unity SDK on the Asset store too (which needs some modification to work properly with VR).
It took me about 2-3 hours to get setup and working with my VR game. I'd definitely recommend it while waiting for the Oculus Touch to be available for developers.
Using this setup has basically given me a fairly robust replacement for the Oculus Touch controller and allowed me to concentrate on building a great experience.
