How to install gameworks VR?

Hi all,

Sorry to ask another question on these forums!

I'm trying to install gameworks VR on my laptop (I understand laptop's are not fully supported, but am hoping it will be okay ish for messing about for a bit, the new PC isn't being delivered until Jan!).

The laptop is an MSI gt72 pro, with a GTX 980m card and i720-HQ CPU.

The demo scene looks great, but I couldn't get the Oculus DK 2 to turn on for anything else (e.g. Tuscany or RollerCost demos).

I understand (I think!) that I need gameworks VR drivers installed. I have downloaded them from the nvidia dev centre after signing-up, but the zip contains a few folders and some drivers... I'm not sure how to install this and can't seem to find any info :(

Any help would be very, very much appreciated

Thanks in advance!

  • Sorry. Laptops are not supported and (in most cases) will not work at all.

You don't need to install anything special aside from the Oculus Runtime and the latest Nvidia driver.

There was previously a special VR-enabled Nvidia driver, but now the normal driver has all these functions.

You may have downloaded the Gameworks VR SDK, which is for game developers and not needed to use the headset.

Your best bet is to wait for that new desktop machine.

Hmmm odd - something strange though is the demo scene looks perfect, also one of the demos in the SDK for gameworksVR, also perfect...

What is strange is that there's no option for 'direct mode' etc in the configuration programme, why would that be? Is it really just because I'm using a laptop? Seems odd. I'd understand if it was laggy etc, but using the demo scene and the gameworks VR demo it looks great!

The headset just won't turn on for some reason using other demos!

    Ahhhh maybe that's why then!

I'm downloading Castlecoaster from that list and will try as soon as it downloads ;)

    Thanks!

I see. If you can view the demo scene, you may be OK.

I bet you are just playing old demos that are supported anymore.
