How to install Oculus SDK

Hi,

I would like to setup my PC for the DK2. At first I downloaded and installed the Oculus Runtime software. But what are about the Oculus SDK for Windows kit? I downloaded and unzipped the file - how can I install the SDK? Or is the SDK not necessary for demo's - only if I would like to develop something?

Thanks.

The software development kit is used to develop own software. It is not needed to run compiled demos (but it contains the OculusWorldDemo aka Tuscany which you can just start and try out).
  • Hi guys,

Just to clarify on this topic, is there an SDK application inside this directory that needs to be installed? Or is this just a series of folders that are there to be accessed by other compiling programs?

Like 'UdoG' I have the runtime installed, but am wondering if there's a similar install needed for the SDK? At some point I'd like to get to the development but not sure if there's an SDK program included in here somewhere?

    Thanks for all the help.
  • Hello,
I'd also like some help on the "How to install Oculus SDK" topic.
I have installed the runtime but now I have no idea what to do with the uncompressed "ovr_sdk_win_0.4.2" folder ...
I guess it may be a stupid questions for the one who already know.
But for the others like me please give some details !
I can't find any clues in the documentations.
    Thanks
  • Howdy, I'm new here but since no one has answered I figured revive an old post just so future people searching will know. The SDK is basically a portable group of tools, meaning that there is no installer. All you will do is extract to OculusSDK folder. For those new to winrar or 7zip simply right click the downloaded sdk zip file and then select "extract to OculusSDK". Then you are free to move the extracted folder to any location of your choosing. Most will place it in "C:\", however if your system drive is not "C", or if you simply wish to put the folder somewhere else then that's fine as well. You can put it on a thumb drive if you want to, though I wouldn't because there is no point in introducing added usb traffic while running the demo.
If you do not intend to develop Oculus aps then you probably won't use the sdk for anything other then the oculus world demo. If you do intend to develop then you will be using what you need from the SDK as you need it, the need for anything else included in the sdk will be evident to a developer.
