Huge 3D Models (fbx)
Hi,
I'm developing a VR system for CAD/BIM applications in construction. The solution specifically aims at visualizing HUGE 3D models. By huge I mean at least 1Gb fbx files excluding textures, so models with lots of meshes. I've tested the system with over 250.000 meshes.
I'm looking for more test cases and/or demo cases for my project. If you have a (construction) model of over 1Gb (the larger the better! Preferably an industrial installation) I will make you a VR flythrough app for free on the condition that I can use your data in demo's.
PM me for more info.

- AnonymousYou might be better off posting this on the SketchUp forums or sub-Reddit I reckon.
- cyberealityGrand ChampionI'll move this to the PC development section. In terms of your question, those files sound way too big to load into a game engine like Unity. What you can probably do is use a 3rd party app that can retopologize the mesh into something manageable in a game engine. Simplygon is one of the more popular solution for this problem.

Yes, they are way too big to import in Unity. That's why I've developed a 3D-streaming solution that works on any size, extremely scalable. I've been testing it on massive models of a industrial client. But I'm not allowed to show these models in demo's outside that company.
That's why I'm willing to build an app for free for anyone who provides me with this kind of data which I CAN demo.
Geert - galopinHeroic ExplorerYou can try san miguel and the power plant and runghot, they are lower than 1GB but still pretty solid model for testing : http://graphics.cs.williams.edu/data/meshes.xml
But, unless you are talking of single mesh with low inter occlusion and >10M poly count, this does not sounds that much impressive. - g33rtHonored GuestThe power plant is exactly the type of model I'm looking for, but with at least 10x the poly count. Preferably also larger topologically.

I work for a company that is making strides in developing web based applications for facilities management using the BIM (level 2) system.
I work for them as a 3D designer mostly working in sketchup and blender along with keyshot. but, we are also a document controlling company for various main contractors within the construction industry.
We have dealt with multiple projects involving BIM, populating asset data into the BIM models using COBie data Schema.
I'm curious to know for what purpose are you developing the app for?
I can imagine this will be quite us full as an augmented system for facilities management diagnosing system faults within the building. - triangleuasHonored GuestWe have quite a few very large 3D meshes that we use for some of our construction and commercial real estate clients. I have a few datasets that we could release. Some are small but others are up to 30GB. Some of the files exceed Sketchfab's limit and we are currently trying to come up with a solution to view the files outside of Pix4D. We are working with a company to develop a custom compression and streaming protocol to reduce the file size and increase performance. I can give you some datasets to play around with if you are interested, and in turn can pilot test your viewing application. Does it support fbx files or obj?
