Intel Skeletal Hand Tracking
I don't know if you guys noticed, but Intel just released the Skeletal Hand Tracking Library for their depth camera (experimental release).

It sure looks impressive, however from trying it out myself the range seems to be very limited for now (you have to be, approx. 10 to 20 cm away from the camera for it to work reasonably well, just like in the video above).
I hope they can improve it so it can work to up to 100 cm!

- Crespo80Explorerthat's neat, but won't the Kinect 2 be better when it will be released for PC next year?
- chaosgridExplorerYes, probably.
However, this is more for close range hand tracking. Kinect will be ideal for full body tracking.
I hope the next Kinect will be accurate enough to actually reliably track fingers, but even reliably detecting a fist vs an open hand is already an improvement.
To this day, there is no proper camera-based solution to track your body/hands, which is a shame. Leap is also limited in its range, however it seems better than most of the other tech. - guyshermanHonored GuestThe issue with any camera based tracking system, is that for true VR you'd need more than one of them in the room to handle self-occlusion, occlusion by others etc. What you need is something with the position tracking of the Razer Hydra, which allows you to detect what the user is doing with their fingers.

- vrHonored GuestI needed some time to find the sources of the Intel Hand Tracker, here are a few more videos and a link to the source:
