Is it really as simple as adding a second or third camera?
Hi oculus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d3Wli7s6KY claims you are backing out of the VR experience and only choosing the seated VR experience at about 6minutes and 10 seconds in.
why not add an extra camera or two and get back the enthusiasm first present in DK1?
also: will you be including a case for the DK2? (i can make my own but knowing is half the battle.
thanks in advance for the software update required to make this simple solution possible, sorry i was not able to tell you about the simple solution of the extra cameras sooner.
last also for now: lifehacker.com/5850388/use-a-cheap-ikea-lamp-to-build-an-affordable-desktop-camera-jig (keep in mind the 3d printed part is not required.. duct tape or bailing wire or spray foam.. would work fine.
thanks for going back to the VR experience instead of the lacking in VR experience.

- densohaxExplorerI will challenge your idea and don't take this personally, I'm not trying to be offensive.
I believe, that having IR cameras is a patchy and temporary solution. Having 2 or 3 would maybe help, but in no way it's going to be a long term solution.. In the end, you just multiply the problem! I see this IR camera thing as an issue myself. I don't believe in it. Even though it works, it's like the P5 glove. I had this big ugly thing on my desk with many wires coming from it.
Granted, the camera is smaller for oculus and does the job for a bit more than 180 degres.
Adding other IR sensor could help, but how would you adjust them, they would probably need to be precisely located and you would have a bunch of wires coming from everywhere. That's simply not something I would like to have..
See, oculus did away with the connector box, simply because it's a clutter, it's some other gadget you need to put on your desk. It's not pretty.
I personally think that oculus is looking for a better solution in the long term, but for now, that's all they have, maybe they want to give us developers a chance to develop content for this type of tracking and maybe the CV1 will use onboard sensors to accomplish the same thing. But the easiest cheapest solution is most probably that 2$ IR camera. - JohnyXHonored Guest

I'm suspecting there will be substitutes for camera in form of accessories ... shoulders as static base for "sensors" or set of flex sensors along neck area . - densohaxExplorer

That wouldn't be a bad idea! - reBoot185Honored Guest

knowing what the headphone jack that isn't a headphone jack is for could be fun. as for the neck sensors.. my fears would be chafe related. - JohnyXHonored GuestWorking on my odt and dealing with some patenting and i.p. I realized that in order to provide low price for their product ...camera tracking is way to go( at least for cv1).
When odt is ready I will demonstrate that you don't have to be seated in order to use a single camera. "reBoot185" wrote:

It's a power socket for the usb port.

"Collar" placed around neck and/or on shoulders.
Low resistance Bi-Directional Flex Sensors in soft housing connected between back strap of oculus and "collar"...w/o direct contact to hair or skin.
Something like that.
Chafe will definitely bring VR immersion to "next" level!(body glide is not included ...... ) - renderingpipeliHonored Guest

Rewatch that video again and you will notice that Nate said that they want to nail seated first before moving on. You might also notice, that DK2 allows for more freedom of movements than DK1.
I also prefer the focus on getting a simpler VR experience *right* first and then move on instead of trying everything and only getting it somehow to work. I already tried VR with a wireless HMD and full movement tracking in a room, but it wasn't done good enough and even DK1 with less freedom was more immersive.
