Is it safe to update to Nvidia official driver?

On the landing page for the Oculus SDK we are referred to the GameWorks VR Driver Support page to download NVIDIA's Windows driver version 358.78 with beta support for GameWorks VR.

But I saw that Nvidia have released the Official Driver version 358.91.

Do this official driver contain the beta support for GameWorks VR? Or should I stay on version 358.78?

  • It's recommended to stick with the VR supported driver for the best compatibility.

While the latest public driver may work, we haven't done enough testing with it to confirm support.

The question then becomes if the drivers containing the beta support for GameWorks VR are a separate development branch compared to the official drivers?

Just upgraded, crashed when I tried the Oculus demo scene. After rebooting, it worked but I got constant judder. The next try then, worked like it should.

    Madness continues. ;)
  • As of Nvidia driver 359.00, VR support should be included in the latest public driver.

You should be fine to download through normal means, like the GeForce Experience or from Nvidia's website.
