12 years agoIs my Hydra bad?
I did get it to work a few times in the beginning, and then it worked randomly, and now it doesn't work. It seems impossible to calibrate correctly. And I don't mean that the hands are slightly off from where they are supposed to be.
I'm pretty sure I've done all that's necessary to set it up right.
The slot to plug in the cord for the two controllers was impossible for me to connect to naturally. It took me a good 10 minutes of trying until I could get it in. So I'm guessing there is damage.
If this is the case, it'd make me happy. I'd rather know that I have a bad Hydra as opposed thinking that the Hydra is bad.
Thank you.

- geekmasterProtegeTry plugging it into a different USB port on your computer.
- geekmasterProtegeSorry, I was in a hurry when I posted that previous reply. I will add more troubleshooting details now.
Start by inspecting the jack and plug between the controllers and base, with a magnifier. If there are any small plastic parts loose in it, that may be interfering with a good connection, and may be what caused it to be difficult to connect. Remove any loose debris that you may find in the connector.
If the metal shell is bent, you may be able to carefully straighten it with small tools. It is usually wise to inspect things when difficult to plug in, to see WHY they are not fitting together, before attempting to apply more pressure than seems reasonable.
If no visible damage, try another USB port. Some devices do not work reliably in some ports on my new computer. - AnonymousThanks for the help Geekmaster. The VR community is really lucky to have you :).
I tried some things but it didn't seem to help. So I ordered a new one and that seems to be working fine.
However, there's a new problem.... all hydra games now crash soon after starting.... I did install the newest Hydra drivers downloaded from Razer. Oh well, software problems can be fixed, so I'm happy. - geekmasterProtege

The sixense drivers are supposed to be much better than the razer drivers. Be sure to uninstall the razer drivers, because having both drivers installed can cause problems. - svenProtege

Hey, same here. The plug for the two controllers was hard to insert. One controller is very erratic (i.e. oriented the wrong way etc.). Looks like I will have to return it. - halfshayHonored Guestive noticed that also. the plug was really hard to insert but now my hydra are working great.
- DeadlyMaverickHonored GuestJust to weigh in with another 'me too' post. My hydra was giving me grief, randomly showing the prompts to 'pull the left trigger' would quickly flash on my screen. After a couple disconnects/reconnects of the controllers to the base, it seemed to clear up for me.
Now to isolate all that pesky noise in m environment... - LordJuanloProtege

^ this. Do NOT install any Razer drivers for your Hydra, you only need Motion Creator from Sixense and the Sixense SDK from Steam (tools section). - KuraIthysHonored GuestI recall some weird behaviour from my hydra early on, but it was just a case of the controllers not being plugged in properly.
The plug is pretty hard to get all the way in though.
It's still possible some of you have damaged hydras, but given how difficult it was for me to get the controller cable plugged in, just make sure you get that right before assuming there's something wrong with yours...
Once I did get that right, it worked perfectly fine, and I haven't had any obvious issues with it. - AnonymousStill not working right. Whenever I see a new Hydra-based game I pretty much don't even try playing it.
What happens is that moving the right controller through the air has the same effect as pushing the right controller stick. For example, if I move my right hand to the right, it rotates my entire view to the right. Up/down motion seems to be working properly.
If I push start on the right controller, this disables this annoying behavior, but then I lose the right hand tracking.
This brilliant device apparently requires not using the updated drivers from its manufacturer, and instead using the sixense drivers. Can somebody please tell me how to uninstall the razer drivers? I checked in the device manager but couldn't find anything related to the Hydra.
I'm looking forward to trying out the new demo "Alone in the Rift". Thank you.
