Is this a bad video panel?
Hey all,
I just received a DK2, and the video output looks like this..
(attached file)
oculus_panel.jpg
I'm assuming it's a bad panel,
has anyone found this effect to be the result of drivers or anything else?

- renderingpipeliHonored GuestThe image seems rotated, might be a software error. Does Tuscany work? Or the Desk demo?
- NoodlesBunHonored Guesttry using the "alt" key and an arrow key at the same time to rotate the display.
also double check the resolution settings on your videocard
not sure if this will help, im still waiting on my dk2 - antigravityExplorer

I did a quick check to see if rotating would help.. it's still junk on the left side.
The resolution is set to 1080p..
The background is doubled up twice horizontally which is odd.

Neither the Desk-Demo or Tuscany work.
As of right now, I'm just trying to get acceptable video output to the left-side of the panel. So far it's just random pixel blasting.. - renderingpipeliHonored Guest

Does the Rift work as a monitor in Windows (which OS version?)? Don't the Oculus demos start or do they also have corrupted renderings? - antigravityExplorer

Yup, it's detected as a monitor (windows 7) .. and there's an option to use in legacy extended display mode..
The oculus demo in native mode doesn't send any video to the device. - renderingpipeliHonored GuestSo in legacy extended desktop mode, does the desktop look correct?
- ChaossExpert ProtegeThat looks like either a bad driver board, a bad display or a bad/dry connection between the 2, then again it could be your GPU. Try using the DVI adapter that came with your Rift and see if that works. You will definately want to email Oculus Support about it, make SURE you put in the subject line of your email "Bad pixels and corruption on left hand side of Rift display regardless of settings".
Their support inbox will be heavily overloaded right now and probably for the next 2 - 3 weeks and if they think it's a software issue they may not prioritize it over the thousands of other emails where people haven't read/followed the instructions.
Probably an obvious one but did you A: update your firmware, B: does the Oculus config utility work and detect the rift and firmware version and finally C: did the firmware update complete successfully?
It might be worth trying the firmware update again just in case and as above try a different output on your video card just to make sure it's not the port or your gpu, as a last resort while looking inside the Rift at the corrupted side what happens when you gently (but not to gently) tap the left side of your Rift? does the image change or the pattern glitch? If so this will be a loose connection and it will narrow down the issue. - antigravityExplorer

nope, that's what you see above.. :/ - antigravityExplorer

Yeah.. I was thinking along those lines as well.
It's weird, the images above are actually with the DVI adapter.
Using straight HDMI I can't even get a signal to the device at all."Chaoss" wrote:

Yup, I have a line out to Oculus Support.."Chaoss" wrote:

I updated the firmware.. and I was able to run the desk demo with the video output to my regular monitor. Position tracking worked fine..
I also tapped the headset pretty firmly to see if it was a loose connection and wasn't able to see a flicker- that's what made me think it might be a driver issue.. and then I came here.
good ole troubleshooting wack-a-mole. - ChaossExpert Protege

Hmmm, try getting the HDMI port to work somehow just try everything, also try changing the display resolution of the Rift when in extended mode to see if the corruption pattern changes, try the obvious if you haven't already and use a different adapter. Something else to check is the refresh rate, make sure it is set to either 60hz, 72hz or 75hz. If it is above or below that you may be getting the video signal corruption
Do you have a spare old laptop or computer? even if it's really old just to check to see if you can get any video on the Rift at all and if the corruption is still there?
