Is this a bad video panel?
Hey all,
I just received a DK2, and the video output looks like this..
(attached file)
oculus_panel.jpg
I'm assuming it's a bad panel,
has anyone found this effect to be the result of drivers or anything else?

Hmmm, try getting the HDMI port to work somehow just try everything, also try changing the display resolution of the Rift when in extended mode to see if the corruption pattern changes, try the obvious if you haven't already and use a different adapter. Something else to check is the refresh rate, make sure it is set to either 60hz, 72hz or 75hz. If it is above or below that you may be getting the video signal corruption
Do you have a spare old laptop or computer? even if it's really old just to check to see if you can get any video on the Rift at all and if the corruption is still there?
So I tried it on someone elses computer and got it working-- definitely a software issue, the hardware is working fine.
Now I'm thinking the issue may be laptop specific- It's one of those deals where I have a Nvidia 780m installed, but it's locked down by an Intel HD 4600 graphics chip on the motherboard with no way around it.. Gonna test on a similar laptop next week and see if it's the same scenario.
Anyways, thanks for all your suggestions Chaoss!
The head-banging trial and error motivation was much appreciated. - peterdn1Honored GuestI received my DK2 last night (MSI Dragon II -780M - Windows 8.1), had similar issues when attempting to use the
Mini DisplayPort.
I was able to resolve all issues when I switched to HDMI, however at various points during my attempts at configuration I experienced a variety of issues including no output to the DK2.
At one point I was confident it would not work correctly with my system but with some persistence I had a fully functioning DK2. I still find the operation of the DK2 to be very alpha in terms of predictable outcomes. This not a complaint (very happy), just an observation. - antigravityExplorer

Yup, I think you got lucky with the MSI- .. I'm on an OriginPC laptop and from what I gather, it's totally locked out.
Nvidia was pretty fierce about locking out 3D-Vision on 780ms that weren't specified for it. I'm thinking part of the lockout is keeping the refresh rate away from the 120hz required.. and that probably falls into the Oculus 75hz camp.
I tried the HDMI, display-port, mini-display port.. all no go...
Consider yourself extremely lucky sir! =)
I'm curious to hear the response from Oculus support.. almost a week out and no reply as of yet. - cyberealityGrand ChampionPlease contact Oculus support and send them that images.
It looks to me like a hardware defect, and we should be able to get you a replacement. - antigravityExplorer

Heya Cyberreality, thanks for the concern-
I sent the images to support@oculus.com along with the DxDiag.txt file last week.. They said they were forwarding it off to engineering. Curious to hear back.
It's not a defective panel because the headset works on desktop configurations.. Looks like it's due to a locked out refresh-rates on Nvidia780m.. which is a shame because the lab I work with has a few OriginPC 780m machines slated for Oculus Dev.
I'll find out if the issue is on the other laptops this week.. If so I'll post back- might be good to warn people if it's an unsolvable issue on these type of configurations.
Never thought I'd be jealous of the 680m 's out there! ; ) - Shannonb1ExplorerIm using a gt70 with a 780m and I dont have any issues.
- cyberealityGrand Champion@antigravity: Yes, please test on another PC if possible. Thanks.
- peterdn1Honored GuestThis was what was displaying on my DK2 when I was struggling with my configuration using the mini Display Port

I think if you continue struggling using the HDMI port you may find some love.
